Critical Speak
"Check out ... the hypnotic, onomatopoeic instrumental, 'Oscillate Wildly,' to see what Johnny can do on his own. Marr does more with less than any musician this side of Peter Buck and Bob Mould."
- Roy Trakin, Creem

Comtesse Review (As If You Care)
"Oscillate Wildly" is a marvelous instrumental track - the first of three Marr instrumentals to be released as b-sides. It is by far the superior of the three - and it is the only one which sounds like it was always intended to be an instrumental. Primarily piano driven, the track is given added atmosphere by Andy Rourke's eerie cello. The excellent title - courtesy Morrissey, of course - is a pun on Oscar Wilde. Predictably for such an intricate and delicate composition, this song was never played live, although I do recall standing in line at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA in August, 1986 and hearing this song echo through the air during a soundcheck. A brilliant composition by a brilliant musician.
